3 corona deaths, 96 corona infections

RIVM reports that the number of deaths from corona has increased by 3. 96 new infections have also been counted.

This brings the total death toll in the Netherlands to 6103, according to the latest figures published by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) today. Yesterday 3 new corona deaths were reported.

RIVM: 6 hospital admissions

The RIVM reports only count people who have been found to be infected with the virus by means of a test. The actual death toll is higher. In recent weeks, the number of deaths from the coronavirus has fallen sharply. This also applies to hospital admissions.

According to the latest data provided by RIVM, 6 new corona patients have been admitted to hospitals, compared to 5 yesterday.

96 infections

96 new positive infections have also been announced, a total of 50,005. There is some delay in the figures, because GGDs sometimes report deaths and hospitalizations only days later. The virus is especially dangerous for the elderly and people with underlying conditions, especially cardiovascular disease, diabetes and chronic lung disease. The vast majority of the deceased were over 70 years old.

Since 1 June, every Dutch citizen with complaints can be tested. About 60,000 people do that every week. This resulted in 579 corona cases last week. It means that one in a hundred tests was positive, less than in the weeks before.

No more daily updates

From 1 July, RIVM will no longer publish daily figures on the number of deaths from the coronavirus, the number of new hospital admissions and the number of new infections. It is now a weekly update.
