2G entry stamp enables shopping in Freiburg city center – Freiburg

Anyone who wants to shop in Freiburg city center can prove their 2G vaccination status once and will then no longer be checked. As proof, there is now a stamp on the hand instead of the ribbon.

Leipzig wants him. Krefeld and Biberach already have it. It will be used in Freiburg from Thursday: the 2G entry stamp for shops in the city centre. Customers who prove their vaccination status get the stamp pressed on the back of their hand. They can then shop in all participating stores for one day without having to have their vaccination certificate checked again.

In December, first experiences were made with ribbons

The campaign was initiated by the dealer community in Friburg in the city and the Freiburg Tourist Board and Trade Fair GmbH (FWTM). The stamp replaces the bracelets issued for the same purpose from December 18th to 31st. The principle is the same. Freiburg shops ask for the vaccination certificate – which is necessary to be admitted to retail – and an identity document to be shown. If both are in order, there is a stamp on the back of the hand, which then only has to be shown elsewhere. This is intended to reduce the control effort and waiting times for customers.

The ribbon phase showed that the system works. Businesses and stores quickly got involved in the campaign, not handing out the wristbands themselves but accepting them as 2G proof. The positive experiences made in the past month are now paying off. As of Monday evening, 65 downtown businesses and shops are already listed where customers can get the stamp.

They are free of charge for member companies of z’ Friburg in der Stadt. All other entrepreneurs are there at cost price of eight euros for stamps and pads, which can be ordered from the office and stationery Sutter at Bertoldstrasse 6.

There is a difference to December. The ribbons – originally purchased for the then canceled Christmas market and then used for retail admission – were a different color every day. In this way, it was possible to determine at a glance whether they were up to date. At the start of the stamp campaign on Thursday, on the other hand, “there will only be one color and one motif,” says René Derjung, press spokesman for FWTM. “Since it is planned that the stamp will be applied to the back of the hand, it will wash off again soon. Whether we will change the colors or the stamp in the future, we will decide after the first experience.”

The system seems to be working well in Biberach

What FWTM concedes: It cannot be 100 percent ruled out that stamps are forged in individual cases. Retailers should be made aware of the need to look closely at the stamps when they are presented, says Derjung.

Unlike their colleagues in Freiburg, the retail trade in Biberach an der Riss has already had a week of practical experience with the admission stamp. There it is called the beaver pass and consists of a drawing of the eponymous rodent in addition to its name. Günter Warth from the local advertising community draws a positive first balance. The customers accept the campaign – like everything that makes shopping a little easier despite the restrictions imposed by the corona measures, says Warth, who runs a fashion shop in Biberach and has taken over the Marc Cain store in Freiburg’s Salzstraße 41, which until End of 2021 was managed by the Kaiser fashion house.

Like the FWTM, he is confident that the vaccination status can be reliably verified with the stamps and without any major risk of smearing. “Within two days, the stamp ink washes off. Then it starts all over again.”
