29 people die in Mexico after arrest of drug kingpin El Chapo’s son

The clashes took place in Mexico after the son of drug kingpin JoaquinEl Chapo‘ Guzman, namely Ovid Guzman, was arrested. A total of 10 soldiers and 19 criminal suspects died as a result of clashes during the arrests.

As reported by AFP on Friday (6/1/2023), Ovidio Guzman, nicknamed “El Raton” (The Rat), was arrested in the northwestern city of Culiacan on Thursday local time. He was then flown to Mexico City in a military plane.

A dramatic shootout also occurred during the arrest process. Indeed, three planes were damaged and there was terror at the local airport.

“Ten members of the military, sadly, lost their lives in the line of duty,” Mexican Defense Minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval told reporters.

“19 offenders also died in the operation,” he continued.

Among the dead was a colonel commanding an infantry battalion. His team is attacked after the arrests are made.

Meanwhile, 35 other soldiers also allegedly suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital. Subsequently, 21 armed men were also arrested.

Not only that, gunfire and arson have also shaken Culiacan after the arrest of Ovidio Guzman. School classes in the city are also temporarily suspended.
