27 infected users and six employees at the Misericórdia de Amares home

An outbreak of covid-19 spread in the residential structure for the elderly in Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Amares, infecting 27 users and six employees.

The information was obtained by O MINHO from the institution’s source and confirmed by the Mayor of Amares, Manuel Moreira.

According to the mayor, the 27 users are “isolated” in a “section” of the facilities of that home, a “wide” place where they are “being well looked after”, the mayor told our newspaper.

The municipality has already met with the institution’s ombudsman, social security and the local health authority in order to understand the measures that may be implemented, such as the operation of a rapid intervention brigade.

The six infected employees are also at home, in isolation, as determined by the health authority.

“Everything is under control and there is no one hospitalized,” added the mayor, without revealing any further details.

Established on October 30, 1951, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Amares offers social responses through the Residential Structure for the Elderly (ERPI), Home Support Service (SAD), Day Center, Social Center, Day Care Center, Kindergarten and Center of Leisure Activities (CATL).

It supports more than 270 users on a daily basis and guarantees about 75 jobs.

72 active cases in the county

The municipality of Amares has 72 active cases, and this number may change due to this new outbreak.

This number was determined by O MINHO from a local health source and refers to 22:00 on Tuesday.
