A 25-year-old woman from Temse has been convicted because she shot her much older love rival Grietje Wieringa (72) twice in her home in Wielsbeke at the beginning of this year. The three judges of the criminal court ruled that it was proven that Summer A. wanted to murder her love rival and imposed an effective prison sentence of seven years on the woman.

On February 10 this year, Summer A. and her boyfriend Imraan A. was present in the home of Grietje Wieringa (72) from Wielsbeke. The couple regularly visited the woman to help her. That day they stopped by and Summer gave her love rival a few more bras as a Valentine as a present. But moments later she aimed a gun at the elderly woman and fired it twice. The victim was in danger of death, but survived the attack.
Summer A. had to answer for attempted murder last month. According to the prosecutor, the defendant was driven to despair by the love triangle, but it was her own decision to murder her much older love rival out of sheer jealousy. “There is sufficient evidence that the defendant acted premeditated, for example, she had knowingly taken the weapon with her in the house and she also prepared the weapon for fire,” said the attorney.
“Vat of humiliation was full”
The defense denied the premeditation. According to the lawyers, it was an impulsive act after yet another humiliation. “They had been there for hours. If she wanted to commit a murder, she would have had many opportunities to do so, ”said her lawyer Filip De Reuse. “In a discussion, the two others had suddenly both turned against our client. Then the light has gone out with her. The vessel of humiliation was full and then she does something that is totally out of her personality. She never wanted these dire consequences. ”
The three judges of the criminal court rule that the woman acted premeditated and that she had the intention to murder her love rival. “There is ample evidence that the defendant shot the victim with the intention of killing her. The victim was seriously injured and without the intervention of the emergency services, the victim would not have survived, ”said the judge.
Summer A. was sentenced to seven years in prison. She must pay the victim a provisional compensation of 5,000 euros.
