25-year-old man drowned in Rotterdam’s Zevenhuizerplas

The fire brigade took the victim out of the water, regional broadcaster Rijnmond reports. He was subsequently resuscitated, after which he died.

It’s not the first person to get in trouble in the puddle today. This afternoon a 7-year-old boy was taken out of the water and resuscitated. He too swam outside the buoy line, where it is a lot deeper, and stayed underwater for about fifteen minutes.

‘Violent incident’

The child has been taken to hospital. According to a spokesperson for the security region, it is unknown how he is doing.

The spokesman speaks of a “violent incident”, because both events followed each other shortly. He warns people who come to the Zevenhuizerplas to look for coolness to stay within the chains. “Anyone can just stand there.”
