245 people detained in protests in Belarus – Worldwide

In Belarus, 245 people were detained in protests on Saturday, the human rights organization Vyasna (“Spring”) said on Sunday.

Opponents of Alexander Lukashenko’s regime protested in Belarus on Saturday. In Minsk, opposition supporters were preparing to gather in the city center, but militias blocked several streets, the city’s main square and the park.

The Belarusian Interior Ministry said more than 100 people who had committed administrative offenses had been detained on Saturday.

On Thursday, when opposition supporters staged actions to mark the 103rd anniversary of the declaration of independence of the People’s Republic of Belarus, 245 people were detained in the country, according to Vyasna.
