23-Year-Old Inmate Escapes from Psychiatric Center: Authorities Issue New Alert in Gironde

It’s been a week since the authorities have heard from a young 23-year-old inmate in a psychiatric center in Angers (Maine-et-Loire). After a first alert broadcast by the Libourne public prosecutor’s office, the gendarmes published a new call for witnesses on January 3, describing a “dangerous individual” who would probably be in Gironde. Explanations.

“Cell damaged by fire”

The fugitive escaped last Thursday from the Angers Mental Health Center (Cesame) in Sainte-Gemmes-sur-Loire (Maine-et-Loire) where he had just been transferred from Angers prison after “having damaged his cell by fire,” according to the prosecution.

Threat against his ex-partner

This young man had been serving two sentences for aggravated theft since July 2022 and was available for release in June 2024. His “dangerousness” is explained by the fact that “this man called his former partner to threaten her with death after his escape”, indicates to TF1 the public prosecutor of Libourne.

Located near Bordeaux

This young man was last seen on December 29 in Pugnac, in the north of Gironde, where his former partner lives, who was placed under protection, according to a source close to the investigation. The gendarmerie also indicates that he was then located near Blaye, in the same department.
