In the corridors of the Saeima, negotiations on the long-promised, but also this year’s unrealized salary supplement for doctors have started again. The responsible ministry hopes to finally fulfill the promise next year and has requested 211 million euros for the salary increase in next year’s budget.
The request includes funds to cover both the 10% increase not granted this year and another 20% planned for next year.
Although the Social and Labor Affairs Committee of the Saeima insists that the funds for the salary supplement specified by law should be sought this year, the Minister of Health Ilze Ņķele does not see such a solution yet. “I raised this issue with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance with some regularity, and unfortunately there is no positive answer at the moment.”
The Commission agreed to address the government as a reminder that parliament insisted on the rule of law and expressed support for funding.
