Bad PR is good PR too – in the case of a mini-apartment in New York City’s hip neighborhood, the West Village, this is more than true: The place that a realtor in a Tiktok video dubbed the “worst apartment of all time” has become Internet hit.
A Tiktok video of a New York mini apartment for $ 1,650 a month – the equivalent of around 1,370 euros – rent has become an Internet hit. The one from realtor Cameron Knowlton, titled “The Worst Flat Ever In NYC !!!” published video has been viewed more than 21 million times and has already generated more than 40,000 astonished and amused comments.
The video shows a tiny apartment consisting of only one room without a bathroom and with a mini kitchenette without a stove. The toilet and shower are in the hallway and are shared by the tenants in the building. “Before you ask me: Yes, this is a real apartment,” says Knowlton into the cell phone camera. “You can get it for $ 1,650 in the most desirable neighborhood in New York City.”
The real estate agent did not want to reveal the exact address when asked. The apartment is therefore in the West Village district of Manhattan. New York is known for horrendous rents. According to a study by Deutsche Bank last year, rents worldwide are only higher in Hong Kong and San Francisco. Because of the corona pandemic, prices have recently fallen.
