21 cases confirmed in one week, circulation of the virus continues

From January 13 to 19, 21 cases of dengue fever were confirmed, which is 5 fewer than the previous week, but the number remains significant. Circulation of the virus continues on the island and is expected to increase after heavy rains in recent days.

Since the beginning of the year, 79 cases of dengue fever have been confirmed in the department. First 3 cases, then 26 and now 21, the number of people affected increased with the onset of the rains. It should strengthen with the last ones that touched the island this weekend again.

With the rains, mosquitoes proliferate and the virus circulates more. Some areas are more affected, such as Saint-Louis, which accounts for 43% of the cases recorded in the last two weeks.

A total of 10 municipalities are affected. The main sources of contamination remain: Saint-Pierre in Condé-Concession and Ravine-des-Cabris, Saint-André in Lotissement Satec, Saint-Denis and Saint-Paul in Plaine-Saint-Paul, Saint-Gilles-les- Baths and water hole.
