2021: That will change for drivers in the new year: workshop information and tips for drivers

The SUV boom continues unabated. But demand could soon be dampened. The reason: The thick ships will be taxed harder from 2021. The new CO2-Directive initially only new cars, but the emissions surcharge is clearly noticeable in the wallet compared to before. The same applies to sports cars and of course to models with carbon dioxide emissions of more than 115 grams per kilometer. Combustion with a CO2-Value below 95 g / km, on the other hand, are cheaper with the vehicle tax.

With the tightened CO2-Guidelines should once again make refueling more expensive. It would be extremely surprising if the emissions discount, which has increased by a few cents, were not transferred to fuel prices. The result: the price per liter for the fossil fuels premium gasoline and diesel are also increasing.

Motor insurance is also becoming more expensive for many drivers. Of the eleven million type classes that will change in 2021, more than 6.1 million vehicle owners will have to dig deeper into their pockets. After all: around 4.6 million drivers can look forward to benefiting from the new, more favorable classification.

For beginners, the practical driving test is more extensive. The tasks are expanded, the driving time extended. The optimized test practice will be applied to all driving license classes in the new year.

Those who want to get into a new car with a new cloth will of course have to pay noticeably more in 2021. Unless the car buyer wants to buy an electric vehicle. The lavish innovation bonuses also apply in the new year to full and part-time electricity (plug-in hybrids) and hydrogen cars (fuel cells). With conventional combustion engines, however, buying a vehicle is more expensive in most cases. Because the manufacturers will pass the 19 percent VAT, which will apply again from January 1, 2021, directly to customers. Because of the corona pandemic, the federal government reduced the tax for the second half of 2020 (July 1 to December 31, 2020) by three percent to 16 percent.

Last but not least. On New Year’s Eve, the validity of the TÜV badges change at midnight. For vehicles that are still on the road with a blue sticker, things could quickly become tight. Anyone who exceeds the deadlines faces a corresponding fine at police checks. If there is a delay of more than two months, there is also an in-depth general inspection (HU) with additional costs and trouble with the car insurance.
