2020 Regional Elections, the final results

The results of the regional elections in Tuscany, Campania, Puglia, Veneto, Market, Liguria e Valle d’Aosta, which were held on Sunday 20 and Monday 21 September 2020, are not yet final (except in Liguria). But from the data of the sections scrutinized – which are the overwhelming majority – clear results emerge, and now recognized by all candidates for the role of governor and party leaders.

The center-left has won in three regions – Tuscany, Campania and Puglia – while the center-right has won in three others – Veneto, Liguria and Marche.

The only Region to change political color is the Marche: after 25 years of center-left, the region will now be led by a candidate expressed by the Brothers of Italy. The center-right in the government, at the moment, of 15 out of 20 Regions: but within the coalition discussions started compared to a result that the leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, had imagined as being much more rounded (we will win 7-0, he said).

In Tuscany Eugenio Giani, representative of the Democratic Party and supported by the center-left coalition, won with 48.6 per cent of the votes (over 860,000 in total). Susanna Ceccardi, supported by the center-right (and in particular by the League), obtained 40.4 percent of the votes (715 thousand in total). In Puglia – one of the regions that, along with Tuscany, was considered among the most at risk for the center-left – to win was Michele Emiliano, outgoing governor, with 46.9 per cent of the votes. Raffaele Fitto, from the center-right, obtained 38.9 percent of the votes. Emiliano was not supported by either the 5 Stars or Italia Viva: the candidates of the two parties, Antonella Laricchia and Ivan Scalfarotto, obtained respectively 11.11 per cent and 1.6 per cent of the votes. In Veneto Luca Zaia, outgoing governor, now in his third term, has won over: the percentages of his victory are exceptional, as Zaia obtained 76.8 percent of the votes. Center-left candidate Arturo Lorenzoni obtained 15.7 percent of the votes. The Zaia list is the first party president, with 44.6 per cent of the votes; the Lega ranks second, with 16.89 percent. In Liguria the outgoing governor, Giovanni Toti, of the center-right, won with 56.13 percent of the votes: 383 thousand preferences in total. Ferruccio Sansa, supported by the center-left – historically very strong in the Region – obtained almost 120,000 fewer votes: 38.9 percent of the total.

In the Market the center-right candidate, Francesco Acquaroli, won: he obtained 49.1 percent of the votes. Maurizio Mangialardi, from the center left, obtained 37.3 per cent of the votes, while Gian Mario Mercorelli obtained 8.6 per cent. (who the article by Fabrizio Caccia)

In Valle d’Aosta the ballot begins on Tuesday morning, as in the municipal elections. According to the exit polls, the Lega is the first party, with percentages above 20%, followed by the list of the center-left Progetto Civico Progressista (around 15%), Union Valdtaine, Center-right Valle d’Aosta, Valle d’Aoste Unie and Alliance Valdtaine.
