Telecom Egypt raises landline charges for LE150

Cairo - Mubasher: The director of information at Telecom Egypt said that it was decided to raise the increase of landline charges from 50 to 150 pounds starting from January.

"The decision comes in view of the high operating costs, as well as the implementation of an infrastructure of 8 billion pounds during the last period," Mohammed al-Azab said in a telephone call to Mubasher.

Al-Azab confirmed that the current participants will not be affected by the decision, but the fees include the new contractors only, pointing out that the increase includes contracting and Turkish expenses.

The number of fixed line subscribers rose by 2.86% on a monthly basis in August 2017, and their numbers increased by 25.8% year-on-year, according to a report by the Egyptian Ministry of Communications.

The number of fixed line subscribers reached 7.89 million in August 2018, compared with 7.67 million in the previous month, compared with 6.27 million in the comparable month of the previous year.
