  • 420 candidates have been selected to participate in the Textileaddict.me contest.

  • This is to create the next collection of the Draper weaver Table Runners.

  • Fifteen students from the Lycée La Martinière Diderot are involved in the project.

The idea? Create a collection of table linen made in France which will then be developed by the manufacturer Drômois Table Dresser. A company where traditional know-how is emphasized and where employees use Jacquard looms.

A contest, called TextileAddict.me has been launched across France for amateurs, professionals and students to take up the challenge. "We particularly want to support the small structures of French creators and manufacturers, sometimes isolated from each other", specify the organizers.

A competition integrated into the school program

A total of 420 candidates are involved in the project, including 15 young people, enrolled in the first year of DNmade textile (National Diploma of Crafts and Textile Design Design) at the Lycée Martinière Diderot in Lyon. Participation in this contest has been incorporated into their school program. A way to put their foot in the stirrup. The first step is to propose the motifs that will adorn the future towels, tablecloths or aprons made in the
Drome.

"The theme chosen is the circus. We worked around three words: playful, spectacular and elegant, "says Margaux, 19. The student chose a drawing featuring a human pyramid. Juliette, 18, was interested in clowns while Sophiane, 18, worked on the training of wild animals. "I did not think I would be confronted in the first year with such a request. In fact, it's very stimulating, even exciting, "says the young man, drawings in support.

"We do not train artists but people in the service of"

"There is no competition between us because we exchange a lot. We consult, we advise, "adds Margaux. Yet each competes individually and bravely defends his chances. "We do not have much perspective but we may have the advantage of being more creative because for now, we do not necessarily know all the codes required by the market. In summary, it is fun, "says Juliette, aware that the level is raised.

François Mallet, one of their teacher was quickly seduced by the idea of participating in this contest, launched by a former student of Martinière Diderot. "We want to make them understand that the trade of textile designer to which they are destined, does not include only the artistic research. It imposes to respect certain constraints and to follow specifications, "he explains. And to add: "We do not train artists but people in the service of. "

Textile designs imagined by students must be submitted by February 16th. The public will be able to vote for one of them from February 18 to March 8 before the results are released on March 28. Three laureates will then be nominated.
