The Ford Edge ST of 2019 is the first crossover to wear the Ford ST badge, the same one that was seen earlier in the Focus ST and the Fiesta ST.
The builders are clear, to attract young buyers by delivering a high-performance SUV, fun, sporty and powerful, as revealed by its 315 horsepower.
The Ford Edge is offered in five models, the SE, SEL, Titanium, the Sport and the ST, but this departs quite a bit from the previous ones.
The Ford Edge ST looks different and sporty, the manufacturers equipped it with a wider and darker grid, side skirts, larger exhaust outlets and 21-inch wheels.
There are other options to consider, such as an improved navigation system, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, xenon headlights, and rear seat entertainment system.
Engine and transmission
The Edge ST has the same EcoBoost V6 dual-turbocharger 2.7-liter, used in the previous Edge Sport, as well as the Fusion Sport sedan.
But the V6 generates 335 horsepower and 380 pounds per foot of torque in the ST, compared to 315 hp and 350 lb / ft in the Edge Sport.
Brings an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The ST also features model-specific suspension adjustment, along with an optional performance brake package.
The Edge has a generous interior and cargo space, as well as excellent visibility. There is a lot of space for passengers in the cabin, the most significant being the rear space for the legs. For more comfort, the rear seats are reclinable.
The front seats are the most comfortable in the segment. Most drivers will find it easy to get in a good position to drive with good visibility.
All Edge models also come standard with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, which can support up to 10 devices, and Ford's Sync AppLink suite of applications, which includes an Amazon Alexa application.
The new Sync3 technology interface works better than previous versions. The calibration screen is easy to operate and configure, while the integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto has no problems.
The cargo area has a capacity of 39.2 cubic feet with the seats up and more than double -73.4 cubic feet-with the seats down, with a wide opening. A power release button bends the rear seat until it is almost flat.
The total capacity of 81.7 cubic feet, thanks to the deep well behind the third row, which provides a superior space.
They include anti-lock disc brakes, stability and traction control, side airbags in the front seats and side curtain airbags.
Additional safety features can be added, including a frontal collision warning, intervention system and lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, automatic windshield wipers, second-row inflatable safety belts, a 180-degree front camera and a automatic parking
On the highway
The V6 engine is very robust for all types of road. It offers a good braking response and above-average performance for the class. The direction is well charged with a natural progression of effort.
There is a good response when entering a turn, and advanced driving aids allow consistent lines and safe curves, although with a degree of electronic micro management.
The suspension absorbs the significant blows very well. The trip may feel a little bit if you hit series ripples on the road, which indicates that the damping could improve, but in general the movements of the body are well controlled.
A Sport mode alters different parameters of the vehicle to animate the driving experience. In the case of the Edge ST, the Sport mode sharpens the throttle response, while reconfiguring the group of digital instruments to display a tachometer and channels noises from sports engines to the cockpit.
It also changes the behavior of the transmission, which allows more aggressive changes in the automatic mode, but also allows the driver to use the shift levers for the manual selection of the speeds.
A speed matching function helps smooth out changes, and generally works well, but occasionally you feel sharp and heavy bumps.
The Edge ST is more expensive than the base model and has its own design. It can cost more than $ 50,000 well-equipped, and is within the range of vehicles such as the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Lexus RX, Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio and the Audi Q5.
The fuel efficiency is 17 miles per gallon in the city and 20 on the highway.
