20 minutes – When Instagram embellishes telework

Feet in the air, the coffee cup next to the laptop and a work space on the balcony. This is what a home office looks like more or less on social networks. But the reality is quite different. Even if we show the reality much more rarely, there are still some examples.

Survey

Do you work?

Preparing for the next meeting in the heart of the countryside with the sound of birds is more like a vacation, time spent by yourself, than work. Many photos represent the home office as an oasis of well-being, with flowers on the desk to cheer up the mood and a few candles next to the laptop and the keyboard to warm the atmosphere in this dark period. On the wall, there is often a table to display ideas of inspiration.

Closer to inspiration than reality

These types of photos are primarily used for the benefit of those who post them. Occasional or regular workers know perfectly well that reality is often very different. But we must admit that the kitchen table, on which the remains of the dinner from the previous day are still located, is not frankly photognique. And, to be realistic, working on the balcony is limited to a few hours in summer.

But who does not like to be inspired? Who would dare to admit that his workspace is in a small dark corner? Admittedly, this is not a problem for occasional workers, who only spend an hour here and there, checking a few emails or scheduling a last appointment. No need, in fact, for a pretty and spacious workspace.

Not easy to separate private and professional life at home

Those who work part-time or full-time at home know that space is needed, which is often sorely lacking. In addition, the working environment must also be inspiring. However, private and professional papers often end up piling up on the desk, creating a merry mess. The mention do not disturb remains, meanwhile, a pious view.

The postman rings the door during the conference call. Meanwhile, the cat claws on important documents and the coffee has been cold for a long time. If there is a table on which to pinch ideas on the wall, it has generally been a long time since it has taken dust.

Real office or photo corner?

However, there are realistic photos, even on Instagram. To find them, however, you have to look a little. In general, they are recognized immediately. They mostly lack brightness. In addition, paper and other trinkets felt on the desk more or less large.

Through the window, if necessary, you rarely see the sun. Most of the time it is dark and the printer is not beautiful either. The office must find its place in the bedroom and everywhere, there is a pile of cables.

Instagram & co. convey a false image

On Instagram & co., The image of working is not only beautiful, but can also be harmful to health. Influencers, like professional photographers, live in particular by taking a picture of the office chair, which is not very photognic.

This is essential in a work space, as mentioned in a recent brochure published by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco). The instructions are the same whether you work at a computer at home or in the office. The height of the furniture must be adjustable if you want to avoid physiotherapy problems in the long term.

This also applies to the particularly pleasant view through the window generally behind the screen, in the photos. And to top it all, there are the glass oriels. Tape – ilil on the photo, but very bad for the eyes. If the background is brighter than the screen, which is almost always the case near a window, this causes, at best, fatigue and risks, at worst, causing eye problems. There is however nothing to say about the flowers and the theme table.
