The players and coach of the men’s national team have waived a substantial part of the amount they should have received in the form of compensation from the Swiss Football Association (ASF) in 2020. The total amount of this renunciation amounted more than a million francs.
The players and the coach wanted to show solidarity with the ASF as well as with elite and grassroots football in Switzerland who are victims of losses which amount to millions due to the cancellation of matches. We want to set an example and show our solidarity with ASF, said captain Stephan Lichtsteiner. The team quickly and unanimously concluded that it has a role to play. And I’m proud of it. This proves that we are – and will remain united.
For the national trainer Vladimir Petkovic, there is no doubt: In times like this, we want and must remain united by supporting each other. Difficult matches can only be won together in solidarity.
For its part, the ASF central president, Dominique Blanc, speaks of a magnificent gesture on the part of the national team. It is a strong sign of solidarity of our best players with the whole family of Swiss football. A gesture that deserves thanks and respect.
