Shortly before March 16, when the Federal Council announced the “extraordinary situation”, the job index showed an increase of 4 percent compared to the first quarter of the previous year, as the Swiss employment agency announced on Monday.
The drop in job advertisements since then has been striking and is already reminiscent of past crises such as the Frankenschock in 2015 or the banking crisis in 2008, says Nicole Burth, CEO of the Adecco Group Switzerland. However, the starting point here is a completely new one, so that the opportunities for a medium-term recovery are intact thanks to short-time working.
Lack of medical personnel
At the moment, medical personnel are very much sought after, as well as personnel in the food industry, in online retailing and occasionally also in logistics and industrial companies. Accordingly, Adecco tries to reposition employees in affected areas to the areas they are looking for.
The next job index will be published at the beginning of July, when the effects of the corona crisis on the overall job market and in particular for the various professional groups are likely to become apparent.
