20 minutes – The City simulates an attack to create a “buzz”

Since Friday, the website of the town of La Chaux-de-Fonds as well as its pages on Facebook and Instagram have revealed messages of a rather dubious taste. The logo of the watchmaking metropolis was hijacked by an alleged troll, posing as a fearsome hacker. Thus to the chagrin of many Chaux-de-Fonniers, the most wacky and incongruous content has unfolded. Stunned by this disturbing turn, many citizens have multiplied the alarming messages by wondering how a hacker could take control for so long on the digital communication media of the second city of the canton of Neuchtel.

First act of a piece of digital theater

The authorities, who wanted to let the buzz settle before revealing the ins and outs, announced the holding of a press conference on Monday in the presence of all of the municipal executive. The proliferation over the weekend of incongruous content and fake news on social networks, with even a make-up version of its official logo, was the first act of a piece of panty digital theater, sponsored by La Chaux- de-Fonds, communicated the City on Saturday.

Shabby and ashamed!

On the Net, this false hacking has aroused a lot of reactions. But what a comic strip, it’s a permanent sketch. Monday’s room is the meeting of the Municipal Council? takes offense at a man on Facebook. Shabby and ashamed! says another internet user. In a furious post, a former journalist ironically assumes that the campaign is a lump.

However, several citizens found the staging rather amusing and asked the protesters to relax.

Asked about the cost of this campaign with a communications agency to fill the image gap in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the spokesman for the City reserved his response for Monday.
