20 minutes – Snapchat adapts its filters to the pandemic

Social media wants to look good in fighting the spread of Covid-19. The Snapchat messaging app is not to be outdone. With the collaboration of the World Health Organization (WHO), it has prepared two new filters to make its users aware of best practices for staying healthy.

Entitled My social distance, the first filter relies on the camera of the smartphone to create a virtual circle guaranteeing respect for the right social distance between people, in accordance with WHO recommendations. As for the second filter, it simply reminds us in a lively way of the basic rules: hand washing, the importance of staying at home and not rubbing your face.

The two filters link to the WHO website, the Geneva seat of which is on the Snapchat card, which provides additional safety advice. As raised the Engadget site, these are not the most impressive augmented reality effects released by the Californian application, but they deserve to have some usefulness.
