LeBron James was included in the US preselection for the Tokyo Olympics this Monday, as were injured Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.
LeBron James’ Lakers teammate Anthony Davis is also part of this group of 44 players from which twelve will be chosen to participate in the Olympic Games.
It is the first step in the selection of the twelve players who will represent the United States within the American Olympic team of basketball Tokyo, announced the manager of Team USA Jerry Colangelo in a press release.
The American team, which will try to obtain a fourth consecutive Olympic title after those of 2008, 2012 and 2016, will be directed by the coach of San Antonio Gregg Popovich.
Room for the injured
By pre-selecting 44 players, the American federation leaves the door open to several injured players of long duration.
Absent from the Olympics-2016 on injury, Stephen Curry, who has practically not played this season after having been operated on with the left hand, has repeatedly expressed his determination to represent the United States Tokyo.
His Warriors teammate Klay Thompson, who had a knee surgery last July and has yet to play this season, was also included in this group.
This is also the case of Kevin Durant, part of the American team at the Olympics-2012 and 2016, who has not yet played a single match under the colors of Brooklyn, his new team since last summer.
