20 minutes – finally a real Porsche again

They are strong, fast and also reasonably economical: in theory there is nothing wrong with the four-cylinder in Porsche Boxster and Cayman. But the two-liter engines don’t really feel like Porsche, so the two-seaters have become shopkeepers and customers prefer to save money and buy an Audi TT straight away, where the engine ultimately comes from. However, Porsche is now putting a stop to this and is bringing the 718s back on line: If Boxster and Cayman are available as GTS again from March at prices from 83,949 and 81,926 euros, then behind the seats, too, is raging according to good old custom another six-cylinder.

Do you dream of a Porsche?

Cayman GT4 engine

The engine is already known from extroverted collector models Boxster Spyder and Cayman GT4, which are around 10,000 euros more expensive and literally cry out for attention. Although the GTS is a little more extroverted and carries dark add-on parts as usual, it is gentlemanly reserved compared to Spyder and GT4.

That may be true for the appearance, but certainly not for the start: Because where else there was an end with an asthmatic 2.5 liter four-cylinder, which a turbo to 365 HP but not too much character helped rages behind the seats now again a sinful six with a displacement of four liters. And instead of a loader, it relies solely on the power of high speeds, which are only capped far beyond 7,000 tours.

You will hardly notice that with the top models there are 20 HP less in the vehicle registration. Because even 400 hp are an announcement that should cause a nervous twitch in the right foot for Porsche fans. Especially since the driving values are as good as in the Porsche 911: from 0 to 100, the two-seaters make it in 4.5 seconds and at full throttle they almost scratch the 300 mark at 293 km / h.

Tight and sleek

As usual, the more powerful engine also has a tighter chassis with two centimeters less ground clearance and a correspondingly lower center of gravity, as well as a mechanical rear axle lock. In addition, Porsche has expanded the equipment a bit and, for example, raised sports seats and sports exhaust to the standard.

Prices are climbing with the number of cylinders. But when it comes to matters of the heart, you don’t look at the money. And even if they do, the GTS models are not a bad choice. Because unlike the four-cylinder turbos, the six-cylinder vacs should also perform as used cars similar to the 911 – and achieve correspondingly stable prices.
