The fawns usually only die after an agonizing agony with severed runs and severe cuts. The hunter has always tried to save as many fawn as possible in cooperation with agriculture. Despite the great efforts, it is not possible to find all of the young animals, RevierJagd St. Gallen wrote in a media release.

Fawns are to be saved with drones
Thanks to the latest technology with drones and thermal imaging cameras, there is now a new possibility to significantly improve the search actions for the young animals. Before mowing, the respective meadows were flown over and you would only set off when the area was “free of ticks”. The success of the method has been confirmed by pilot projects in the last three years and now the drone deployment in the fawn rescue is to be rolled out across the board.
Financial resources are needed
Over a Crowdfunding campaign the association collects a jump start for the procurement of ten drones with thermal imaging cameras. Complete drone equipment costs around 6,000 francs.
With the aim of deploying as many drones as possible in the fawn rescue in the 2020 season, drone pilots and fighters are to be trained in the spring for the optimal use of the technologies. The volunteer work of the hunters amounts to over a hundred hours.
