– In France, 20 firefighters raped a woman who was in her teens 10 years ago for two years, but only three people have been handed over to trial, and public opinion’anger’ is rising.

According to the British Guardian on the 7th (local time), three firefighters in Paris, France, will be charged with sexual assault on Julie (pseudonym), a teenage girl at the time of the incident, and will be judged by the Supreme Court.

Julie was raped by a firefighter in 2008 when she was 13 years old. The fireman got Julie’s phone number from a medical file, and sent a friendly message to Julie to wow it. The firefighter later asked Julie to take off her clothes through a webcam, and when the girl responded, handing over the number to her colleagues.

After that, sexual assault continued, and in the end, Julie told her family about the damage. Julie’s family filed a complaint with the police in August 2010, and according to the victims, there were 20 firefighters who raped Julie. The victims claim that they have been in and out of Julie’s house 130 times in two years.

Three firefighters were investigated for sexual assault on Julie, but no action was taken against the remaining 17. The three perpetrators were handed over to trial in July 2019 for being “a crime of committing sexual intercourse by agreement with a youth under the age of 15” instead of rape. They argued for a consensual relationship, and the first and second trials decided that’coercion or violent coercion’ was not proven.

For rape crime to be applied in France,’coercion or violent coercion’ must be proven. If not proved, a separate crime of’sexual violence’ is applied. The maximum difference between the two crimes is 20 years in prison and 7 years in prison.

Women’s groups will hold protests across France calling for prosecution of all perpetrators for rape. The women’s group argues that “firefighters should be tried for rape, not sexual violence.”
