20 children treated for Kawasaki-like illness, relationship with coronavirus | NOW

Dutch hospitals have recently treated twenty children for a Kawasaki-like disease, chairman Károly Illy of the Dutch Association for Pediatrics (NVK) told NU.nl on Monday after reporting the NOS. Eleven of these children had antibodies against the coronavirus.

According to the NVK, there is a link between the coronavirus and the disease that the children have. “It’s just not clear what relationship,” said Illy.

The children have symptoms that partly correspond to the symptoms associated with Kawasaki disease. Some ended up on the IC, but have since been fired.

In Kawasaki disease, fever can occur and the palms and soles of the feet are red. Young children in particular get this disease, although it is not known how they get sick.

The Kawasaki-like disease that seems to be linked to the coronavirus has not only appeared in the Netherlands. In the United Kingdom, France and the United States, too, a Kawasaki-like disease has been reported in children who also have antibodies against the coronavirus.

Illy reports to NU.nl that European colleagues are conducting joint research.
