VIVA – Two asteroid ready to greet people Earth in December 2021. Both are Asteroids 2003 SD220 and 2018 AH. Here’s a brief profile:
Asteroid 2003 SD220
Asteroid 2003 SD220 is in a position close to Earth or a distance of about 5.4 million kilometers with a speed of 5.6 km per second on 17 December.
For comparison, the distance between the Earth and the Moon is much closer than that, or about 385 thousand km. The space rock has a diameter of about 791 meters or almost the size of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Although classified as a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (PHA) due to its size and proximity to Earth, it appears that 2003 SD220 poses no threat to Earth.
This asteroid orbits the Sun every 275 days (0.75 years). The closest distance is 0.65 AU and the farthest reaches 1.00 AU. 2003 SD220 completes rotation on its axis every 285 hours.
