As of next Saturday, ghost games should be on the agenda in Germany.

It was the big fear in the ghost game concept of a team sport: the corona case that brought the shaky building to collapse. The horoscenario has now arrived in Germany even before the Bundesliga operations resume on May 16.
–
The third Corona test by second division club Dynamo Dresden tested two players on Saturday evening. The Dresden Health Department decides on the basis of an in-depth analysis, also because it is not the first case in a team: the entire team, including the coaching and supervisory staff, has to go into quarantine at home for 14 days!
–
The impact: Dynamo has to suspend training and cannot play in the first two rounds. The infected players themselves are not allowed to leave the house, including shopping or jogging. Only members of the household who are not affected may do the shopping. During the first tests a week ago, Dynamo had tested a player who is now in quarantine. At that time, the health authority had not quarantined the whole team.
–
Now the question arises: Wouldn’t it have been enough, as in the case of this player, to send the infected and the people living in the same household to quarantine, as is also provided for in the protection concept of the Swiss Football League?
–
DFL boss Christian Seifert said on Saturday evening in ZDF’s “Current Sports Studio”: “We have always emphasized that the local health authorities determine this for each individual case and for each team. You set the pace. The concept is that any team that is affected must be in quarantine after the decision of the responsible office. » This was also recommended by the Conference of Ministers of Sport in Germany, even if the DFL would rather have seen that only the person concerned has to be in quarantine. And what if another case should appear in another team? “I can’t answer this question,” says Seifert. “As stated in the guidelines, the decision always lies with the respective office.”
–
Is the Bundesliga relaunch of May 16 at risk? Seifert says no. “Currently not. 81 games are in the second division. It now means that two games from Dresden cannot be played. We’re not changing the goal now, we’re changing the plan. » The season should continue until June 30th.
–
The Dresden case did not overturn all plans. “We have prepared for such cases and have buffers, also because we assumed that there could be shifts,” says the DFL managing director.
–
However, Dynamo Dresden is now completely out of circulation with the measure of domestic quarantine, the players are not even allowed to train. Means: A (training) backlog compared to the competition is inevitable. This is a hot topic in the case of Dresden, as the team is currently in the middle of the relegation battle as seventeenth in the table.
–
For the time being, however, we can still look forward to May 16 and to the BVB vs. Revierderby vs. Schalke and the “Swiss duel” Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Mönchengladbach.
