2. Bundesliga: The secret promotion bonuses of HSV – FOOTBALL 2. LIGA

The 3: 3 at Hannover 96 hurt twice. The Hamburger SV players lost two valuable points in the promotion battle despite a 3-0 lead – and bonuses went by the rags. Midfielder Sonny Kittel (28), for example, receives only 3000 instead of the 9000 euro point bonus for the draw at Lower Saxony.

Promotion bonus, bonuses, salary increases: SPORT BILD reveals how the professionals of the table runner-up would benefit from a Bundesliga return of HSV!

Kittel is one of the top earners, his basic salary is almost 800,000 euros. If HSV rose, Kittel would not collect any promotion bonus – but his earnings in the first division would increase to around 1.2 million euros per year. In addition, there would be a higher point bonus – 5000 instead of 3000 euros. That would be 15,000 per victory in the House of Lords.

Other professionals do not have as high a basic salary as Kittel or veteran Aaron Hunt (34), who is said to receive a fixed salary of over one million euros. But if they are successful, they benefit from promotion bonuses.

The annual basic income of midfielder Klaus Gjasula (31), who came free of charge from Bundesliga relegated SC Paderborn in 2020, is around 500,000 euros. In the case of the first division return, there would be a promotion bonus of 100,000 euros. This also applies to captain and defender Tim Leibold (27) depending on the missions. In the case of central defender Toni Leistner (30), the promotion bonus should also be up to 100,000 euros.

The promotion bonus with David Kinsombi (25) depends on the number of bets. If the midfielder plays 15 to 19 games over a period of at least 45 minutes, there would be 100,000 euros, and from 20 appearances, 200,000 euros. This is also the case with team-mate Jeremy Dudziak (25).

Josha Vagnoman (20), meanwhile, would collect a bonus of 30,000 euros. The basic salary of the defender in the 2nd division is 420,000 euros, in the Bundesliga it would increase to 720,000.

Simon Terodde (33) would also receive a promotion bonus. If he succeeds with HSV, it will be around 200,000 euros, depending on the stakes. In the event that Hamburg miss the Bundesliga return again, Terodde is covered. Then ex-club 1. FC Köln pays him roughly the same amount. It was agreed a year ago when the striker prematurely terminated his contract with the Bundesliga club.

In the second division, HSV is planning a salary budget of 23 million euros. In the Bundesliga, the item would grow to around 36 million. Also because salaries are increasing. One of the beneficiaries would be U21 national player Stephan Ambrosius (22), who extended his contract to 2024 at the beginning of 2021 and received a significant increase in salary. In the second division he collects around 650,000 euros, depending on the stakes, in the Bundesliga the salary would rise to up to 1.2 million.

And what about those responsible?

Coach Daniel Thioune (46) should get up to 200,000 additional bonuses in the event of promotion.

In the case of Jonas Boldt (39), there were tricky negotiations. The HSV wanted to sign the sports director in 2019, but could not pay him a high basic salary. However, Boldt wanted to join HSV and signed a risk contract when he signed for the first time in 2019: His basic salary was only 480,000 euros, the same amount – i.e. a full annual salary – would have been paid in the event of promotion. In autumn, Boldt last extended his contract ahead of schedule until 2023. It is not known whether the clause has been changed.

HSV has included a total of three million euros in its budget for promotion bonus payments. These include lookups for other clubs.

Completely insane: The northern competitor Holstein Kiel would collect the most in an HSV promotion: half a million for ex-manager Ralf Becker (50), who came to HSV in 2018, was dismissed in 2019 and now works for third division Dynamo Dresden.

Why would this payment still be due? Because Becker signed for three years in 2018 and the success payment will last until summer!

League competitor VfL Osnabrück and Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln also keep their fingers crossed for the Hamburgers. The Lower Saxony would get around 500,000 transfer fees for ex-coach Thioune and defender Moritz Heyer (26), who moved from VfL in 2020. And Cologne around 300,000 bonuses for Terodde, after the striker was allowed to move to HSV for free in 2020.
