One week before the American Oscars, the film 1917 triumphs at the Baftas, the British cinema awards, with the title of best film and best director for Sam Mendes. The American Renée Zellweger won the Bafta for best actress for her interpretation of the legendary actress and singer Judy Garland in the biopic Judy. Oscar-nominated and crowned Golden Globe for this role, the 50-year-old actress won before Jessie Buckley (Wild rose), Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story), Saoirse Ronan (Daughters of Doctor March) and Charlize Theron (Scandal). Joaquin Phoenix won the Bafta for best actor for his title role in the film Joker. Awarded at the Golden Globes and nominated for an Oscar for this role, the 45-year-old American actor won before Léonardo Di Caprio (Once Upon a Time … In Hollywood), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Jonathan Pryce (Joker) and Taron Egerton (Rocketman).
