18 months before the pandemic virologists in Wuhan wanted to …

Wuhan virologists have planned to infect a population of bats with coronaviruses to vaccinate them against diseases potentially dangerous to humans. As follows from the published applications for grants, the proposal was considered in 2018, writes the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.

Scientists planned to test “new chimeric proteins of the virus’s spines” on bats just 18 months before the first case of Covid-19 was discovered in humans, according to documents cited by “Focus“.

Virologists have also requested $ 14 million from the Advanced Defense Projects Agency (DARPA) for experiments to create chimeric viruses that can more easily infect humans. The British newspaper writes that DARPA has refused to sponsor the work of scientists from Wuhan.

The publication reports that a request for comment has been sent to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

In March, an international group of experts published a report after a trip to China in January-February to investigate the origin of the new coronavirus. Experts cannot reach an unambiguous conclusion. According to the final document of the mission, they consider the most likely scenario in which there was transmission of coronavirus between animals and then humans, and the least likely scenario, according to them, is the appearance of the virus in the laboratory.

On August 27, the website of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence published a report by the US intelligence community summarizing the findings of the intelligence services on the origin of the coronavirus. The document notes in particular that the coronavirus was not developed as a biological weapon. At the same time, US special services acknowledged that they will probably not be able to give a definitive assessment of the origin of the coronavirus without the help of China.
