17-year-old suspected of killing Kenosha protesters extradited

Kyle Rittenhouse, suspected of killing two protesters in Kenosha, US, has been extradited to Wisconsin authorities. The 17-year-old American lives in the state of Illinois, in a town near the Wisconsin border. He wanted to stay in his home state for his trial, but the judge put an end to that.

Immediately after the verdict, Rittenhouse was driven to the Illinois-Wisconsin border, where he was handed over to the Kenosha sheriff.

The boy was born in late August arrested in the police investigation into the deaths of two men in riots in Kenosha. A few days earlier, the black American Jacob Blake had been shot several times in the back by the police at close range. He became permanently paralyzed from the waist down.

Protest and looting

After this shooting incident, demonstrations and looting broke out in Kenosha. Armed civilian militias were also active, which they said patrolled the city to protect people and prevent further looting.

According to American media, Rittenhouse was part of one of those militias. He was arrested on suspicion of killing two protesters. He is also said to have injured a third protester. Rittenhouse’s lawyer says the boy was acting in self-defense.
