During the research, a team of scientists took nasal samples from 205 people from eight districts between June and October. Based on these samples, new types of coronavirus were identified. The most common scientists call four of them. The experts’ fear is caused by mutations in one of these four.
Scientists note that these variants of COVID-19 are very different from the new strains found in the UK and South Africa. Despite the fact that the research data is still preliminary, experts say that one of the detected strains is unique to Kenya and has not been found anywhere in the world before.
At the same time, according to the head of the research team Charles Agoti, mutations in such viruses are often insignificant. As for the detected samples, it is too early to draw any conclusions about them, as more tests are needed.
