In Poland, with 38 million inhabitants, the daily record was broken for the fifth time in a row. The Ministry of Health reported that an additional 5,300 people have been diagnosed with the contagious virus. Poles must also wear masks outside from Saturday.

Lockdown

According to figures from the European health service ECDC, the Czech Republic leads the list of European countries with the highest number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants. Theaters, swimming pools, cinemas and museums have to close their doors for two weeks this Monday. Prime Minister Andrej Babis also does not rule out a new lockdown.

In Portugal, which is comparable to the Czech Republic in terms of population, a further 1,646 people have been diagnosed with corona. The country reported more than 1,000 new corona cases last Thursday for the first time since April. Portugal is also hit hard by the pandemic economically as tourists stay away.

Austria (more than 8 million inhabitants) reported a record number of 1,235 new infections on Saturday. The Alpine country has been less affected by the pandemic than many other EU countries, but the virus spread in winter sports areas earlier this year. That’s why après-ski parties are banned.

More and more infections are also being diagnosed in Russia. There it went on Saturday at 12,846 new corona cases. Russia, with a population of about 145 million, has already identified a total of 1.2 million people that they have contracted the virus. That is by far the highest number in Europe.
