15 years in prison for teenager who threw child from panoramic terrace Tate Modern

An 18-year-old British teenager who threw a 6-year-old boy from the panorama terrace on the tenth floor of London’s Tate Modern last year has been sentenced to at least 15 years’ imprisonment. The victim ended up on the roof of the fifth floor of the building and was seriously injured.

In court, Jonty Bravery stated that he pushed the French boy off the roof because he wanted to get on the television news. The teenager was treated for autistic and compulsive disorders for his actions and had told rescuers that he wanted to kill someone.

Lasting injuries

According to the judge, the then 17-year-old Bravery planned to kill the boy and almost succeeded in that. “That little boy suffered permanent injuries that changed his life,” the judge said in the ruling.

“You went to the viewing platform, looked around and saw the victim and his family. You went to the boy and threw him over the railing. The fear he must have felt and the dismay his parents felt are beyond comprehension.”

According to the judge, his act proves that Bravery is a great danger to society. “You planned this and seemed to be enjoying the fame.” After 15 years in prison, Bravery can make a first request to be released.
