15 Conference on classical theater

From Monday 26 to Wednesday 28

Place: San Pedro Performing Arts Center

Presentation:

The Conference has yet to celebrate its fifteen editions, a round number to congratulate, and more so when it has cost us so much to get there. Naturally, the lived experience will appear in the reflections of our meetings, because the pandemic has put to the test, if not the survival of the classics, then that of those who today must give them a voice and life, of which covid, associated with other diseases of our cultural system, has shown itself to be a fierce enemy. It is mandatory to assess the situation and propose ways out.

Several are the focuses of this return edition. One of them will be in the presence of women in classical theater, to which the two sessions of the first afternoon will be dedicated, consisting of a recital by Teatro Corsario and a dialogue table. It will also be taken into account that the V Centenary of the Communities is commemorated. The interest that this moment of the community past arouses by itself is joined by another that involves our Festival in a special way: everything indicates that in the conflict it finds its original impulse The Knight of Olmedo, one of the great tragedies of the universal theater, which also at this time celebrates its centenary, in this case the fourth, of its writing. The activities of the second and third afternoon will consider these milestones from different sides, ranging from multidisciplinary critical analysis to scenic recreation.

The shows that the Festival programs on those days will give rise to dialogue sessions, with the participation of directors, actors and others responsible for their staging, as well as critics and researchers, so that together, including the spectators, we can progress in how interpret them: that is, how to put them on stage and how to understand them. Ultimately, it is about starting from specific cases to improve the way of approaching the classics.

The entrance to the different sessions will be free (until the available capacity is completed in accordance with the sanitary measures), although to qualify for the diploma that accredits the 30 hours of the Conference it is necessary to register.
