136 reports of damage after earthquakes in Groningen

The Groningen Mining Damage Institute (IMG) has received 136 damage reports following yesterday’s earthquakes in Uithuizermeeden and Uithuizen. The first earthquake of magnitude 2.7 and the second of magnitude 1.7.

Three reports stated that a situation of grave danger had occurred. In two cases, the situation proved safe after the inspection, IMG says. The third case has yet to be investigated. 27 applicants opted for fixed compensation of 5,000 euros.

Over the past two months, the average number of claims per day was 107. IMG now handles nearly 20,000 claims. It considers 153,790 completed cases.

The Cabinet decided on Friday how much gas will be extracted from the Groningen soil in the next gaseous year (from 1 October to 30 September). What will be announced tomorrow.
