13,000 students receive meals in public schools this summer

The school meals program will be concentrated in the educational centers of the Summer Schools initiative, which includes nearly 160 facilities throughout Uruguay. Students will have access to breakfast and lunch.

The general director of initial and primary education, Graciela Fabeyro, said that in eight schools in Montevideo and Canelones the service will be provided by outsourcing companies.

Furthermore, the School Food Program has edited and published a recipe book to be applied during the summer, in order to provide a healthy and balanced diet.

It has also issued a series of recommendations aimed at those who prepare the dishes, aimed at providing safer food. Among them, the implementation of good practices in food handling, extreme sanitation measures, wearing a uniform and adapting the quantities of preparations for daily consumption stand out.
