On Thursday May 7, 591 new cases were reported. 362 patients live in Flanders, 143 in Wallonia and 57 in Brussels. We have no information about the whereabouts of the last 29 people. The total number of confirmed cases is 52,011.
The situation is as follows:
A total of 2,555 patients are currently hospitalized. 108 new hospitalizations have been recorded in the last 24 hours.
A total of 508 patients are in intensive care, a decrease of 34 patients in the past 24 hours.
13,201 patients were discharged from the hospital and were declared cured since March 15, an increase of 221 in the past 24 hours.
A total of 8,521 deaths have been reported, an increase of 107 deaths in the past 24 hours. Of the deaths in the past 24 hours, 39 have occurred in hospital, 63 in a nursing home. In this latter group, 52% was confirmed by a COVID-19 test.
Of the 8,521 people who died, 47% died in hospital, 52% in a nursing home, 0.3% at home and 0.4% elsewhere. Hospital deaths are all confirmed cases. The deaths which took place in nursing homes concern confirmed cases (20%) or suspected cases (80%).
