102-year-old woman survives coronavirus: “Hope for all old …

A 102-year-old woman from Italy was cured from Covid-19 after being hospitalized for twenty days. The treating doctors have nicknamed her “The Immortal.”

Italica Grondona was hospitalized in March with heart problems. “She had only a few minor symptoms that indicated the coronavirus,” Dr. Vera Sicbaldi of San Martino Hospital in Genoa told CNN. “But when we tested her, she turned out positive. We actually did very little. She healed on its own, ”said Sicbaldi.

Grondona left the hospital on March 26. She is now in a nursing home where she continues to recover. According to the attending physicians, the woman counts as hope for other elderly people. They nicknamed her “The Immortal” and are continuing to study her blood samples. “She is the first patient we know who may have survived the Spanish flu in addition to Covid-19 since she was born in 1917,” said Sicbaldi. The Spanish flu raged in 1918 and 1919 and killed at least 50 million people worldwide.

Italy has been severely affected by the corona virus. The country has the most corona deaths of all countries in the world, more than 11,000. The death toll continues to rise by many hundreds every day.
