Russia is preparing for a possible invasion of Ukraine. That could happen early next year, but President Vladimir Putin has not yet decided whether to give the green light. It reports Bloomberg, who has spoken to several sources in the US intelligence service.
The Kremlin calls the allegations “hysteria.” The United States “whips up the mood,” Putin’s spokesman told Russian media. The Russian intelligence service SVR equates the Americans with Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda chief. At the same time, SVR compares the situation to what it was just before Russian soldiers moved into Georgia in 2008.
The tone from Moscow is far more aggressive than before, and there is a real danger that there may be war. The goal will be to push for a new security agreement in Europe, say various experts.
