A man hit a concrete electric pole, Saturday June 25 in the morning, in Fay-de-Bretagne (Loire-Atlantique). The child who accompanied him died.
The driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The town of Fay-de-Bretagne (Loire-Atlantique) was the site of a terrible tragedy, Saturday morning June 25. A truck violently hit an electric pole near a locality, around 4 a.m., says France Blue Loire Ocean. The firefighters, dispatched to the scene, discovered two victims: the driver and a 10-year-old child. At this moment, the latter was still only in cardio-respiratory arrest. But attempts by paramedics to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. He was declared dead a few moments later by the SAMU.
The driver fell asleep
According to information from France Blue, the driver would be the father of the child. He reportedly fell asleep at the wheel of the road truck and lost control of the vehicle, drifting to the right of the lane. The shock with the electric pole would have been particularly violent, to the point that the cabin would have been cut in two after the impact. The child had stretched out on the bunk to sleep. He was not wearing a belt, and would thus have been thrown into the cabin.
France Blue adds that the man is from Ille-et-Vilaine. Taken to Nantes University Hospital after the accident, he suffered only minor injuries but was in shock. The accident also caused a power outage in around fifty surrounding homes. Repair services have already been sent to the site to quickly resolve the problem.
