When Anthony Modeste (33) cheers, all of Cologne dreams of Europe.
So it was in 2017, when FC created the qualifying sensation after an unbelievable 25 Tony goals. So it can actually happen in 2022, after Modeste headed the club at the start of the year with its 12th place in 6th place.
Cologne is back in Euro fever – because the motivation at star striker Modeste could not be greater five years after his super season. BILD says what’s behind the Modeste fairy tale.

The more or less involuntary move to China in 2017 is still a concern for Modeste. That not only showed his broadside in mid-December against ex-sports director Jörg Schmadtke (57), whom he still accuses today of never negotiating a Modeste future in Cologne.
Instead, the clippers were deprived of their big euro adventure by the mega-million transfer. Modeste had fired FC into international business, but could not participate in it himself and has since affirmed: “I want to play with Cologne in the Europa League until my contract expires.”
He embodies the will this season like no other. And his form is still impressive five years after his best Bundesliga season to date. The French – better than ever.

► Cologne striker is currently writing one goal story after the other. With his 56th FC goal, he already overtook club legend Lukas Podolski (36/55) into 8th place among the best Cologne shooters of all time.
► With eight header goals in the first half of the season, he also set a new league record.
► And after his ninth at 3-1 in Berlin, only two more are missing to reach the historic season record of 11 stalls per head. So far only Sergej Barbarez (2001 / for HSV) and Jan Koller (2005 / for BVB) have succeeded.
