[전국]Forest fire in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do, destroys 110,000 square meters of forest…”Focused in stopping spreading”

[앵커]

The forest fire in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do, which started this afternoon, has already burned a national forest of 110,000 square meters.

Forest authorities are focusing on stopping further proliferation until bright days after switching to nighttime firefighting.

Let’s find out by connecting reporters. Reporter Park Ki-wan!

Start with the fire situation.

Yes, let’s look at the screen containing the site situation first.

This is the scene taken by the Korea Forest Service drone from above.

Bright red flames are rising here and there.

Currently, the area where the fire is spreading will appear red.

There is a fairly large space between the flames at the bottom of the mountain on the lower left and the two flames on the right.

It’s not easy to see because it’s night, but the fire spread and all the forests here burned down.

The fire started at Mt. Nochu in Gujeol-ri, Yeoryang-myeon, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do, around 3:50 pm today (20th).

The Korea Forest Service and the fire fighting authorities mobilized 11 helicopters and put in more than 200 manpower to immediately extinguish the fire.

However, the slope was severe and the mountain was difficult, so firefighters could not approach the fire site.

Here, a strong wind of 6.2m per second made it more difficult to evolve.

There are 5 private houses living at the bottom of the mountain where the fire is believed to have started, but no one has been injured by the forest fire to this day.

However, it is estimated that 110,000㎡ of national forest was burned by this fire by 9:30 pm.

Fire departments and police are protecting the neighborhood of private homes for fear of the spread of wildfires.

When I look at the screen, it seems that the flame is still very large. How far has the evolution progressed?

[기자]

Yes, the forest authorities explained that 50% had evolved by 11 p.m.

However, the speed of evolution at night is bound to slow down.

As the day got dark, the Forest Service withdrew all helicopters, and is focusing on preventing further proliferation rather than evolution by establishing a diffusion line.

The good news is that the strong winds have subsided at about 3 meters per second and are not spreading quickly.

However, the forest authorities said they would prevent further damage as much as possible until the day was bright and the helicopter could be re-introduced as a strong wind of about 5m per second is expected again after 3 am

So far, the Ministry of Social Affairs has delivered it.
