“We plan to reduce the external schedule burden on players with digital human technology. Faker finished off-season filming last year. We can meet Digital Faker sooner or later.”

Choi Seong-hoon (T1 Entertainment & Sports League of Legends team) general manager (GM, General Manager) held an interview at the T1 office in Gangnam, Seoul on the 27th of last month, referring to’Digital Human’ as the biggest change in the team after taking office.

Digital human refers to a human in virtual reality created with artificial intelligence (AI) and graphic technology. In the advertising market, despite last year’s Corona 19 pandemic, it attracted attention by being active without restrictions.

T1 plans to store video data of major players such as Faker during the off-season using VR/AR (virtual augmented reality) technology and use it for advertisement shooting. Currently, it is at the level of applying background CG (graphics) to pre-recorded data, and plans to upgrade it to the extent that digital dormancy can self-activate in virtual space.

Choi decided to introduce’digital human technology’ because of the’player abuse controversy’ that occurred last year. Team sign star’Faker’ Lee Sang-hyuk appeared in 10 commercials and various broadcasts last year. In particular, T1 attracted a backlash from fans by appearing on the recording of entertainment programs during the season, including Faker and many other T1 players.

Choi said, “As a result of many discussions, we could not completely eliminate the external schedules of the players. We plan to use digital humans to relieve the burden.”

However, he added, “It is not confirmed to be active outside of the season only,” he added, “reducing the burden of all players and moving toward a confirmed direction.”

Director Choi put forward’e-sports player experience’ with the background of being able to take action quickly. From 2010 to 2016, he worked as a StarCraft 2 pro gamer and won several competitions. After completing his military service in 2019, he joined T1 in November last year and was in charge of fostering and recruiting athletes, creating an environment for improving athletic performance, and external communication.

“Because of the player experience, I was able to easily see where the players were satisfied and if there were any difficulties,” said Choi. “I talked comfortably with the players by letting them know that they were aware of the problem.

With the goal of this year, the first year of his inauguration, Choi suggested that the team will win the World Championship while faithful to his role in the team. He said, “As it is the best e-sports club, we will do our best not to be embarrassed.”

He also said, “I am sorry for the concern for my fans last year,” and said, “We are planning to show our progress by humbly accepting the opinions of the fans, so please do not spend a moment in one game, but support until the end.”
