A 10-year-old girl who was found dead after being entrusted to her aunt’s house was confirmed in a police investigation that she died due to the harsh abuse of her aunt couple. It turns out that the couple falsely reported that when their nephew died, they “falled into a bathtub and died.”
The Yongin East Police Department in Gyeonggi announced on the 9th that it will apply for an arrest warrant against Aunt B and his aunt (both in their 40s) on charges of violating the Special Act on Penalty of Child Abuse Crimes.
Mr. B (in 40s), who had raised Miss A who died the day before in a police investigation from three months ago, said, “The child hit him for about two days because he could not listen and urinate well. I put it in and out of the water several times.” Mr. B and Mrs. B then stopped the act and reported to 911 when Ms. A was not breathing and became droopy.
The time when the report was received to the fire department was at 12:35 p.m. on the 8th, and the paramedics, who had been dispatched to Ms. A, who had cardiac arrest, moved to the hospital while performing CPR, but died. During this process, the hospital medical staff and paramedics found bruises on both sides of A’s body and reported suspected child abuse to the police. The police received a statement from Mr. B’s couple that “there was a fact that they lightly beat a child several times,” and arrested them urgently for violating the special law on punishment of child abuse crimes. Subsequently, they questioned the details of Ms. A’s death, and Mr. B eventually confided about the abuse using water.
However, it is known that the likelihood of drowning is low, as Miss A’s body does not show bright red spots (spots appearing on the body after death), which are mainly seen when drowning. On that day, the autopsy doctor who performed an autopsy of Miss A’s body also made the first observation that “it is presumed to have died from secondary shock.” Subcutaneous bleeding caused by trauma decreases circulating blood and causes shock, meaning that it appears to have died. It is estimated that the cause of the shock was drowning in the bathtub and the assault that occurred before.
In fact, on Ms. A’s body, many bruises caused by the assault were found all over her body, including her thighs, to gauge the extent of the assault on Ms. A. In particular, a number of bruises and wounds from plastic fly swabs and plastic brooms found in Mr. B’s house were found. It is reported that Mr. B’s couple also stated that they used it for assault. In addition, it is known that there are traces of being tied to something in the arm of Ms. A, and it is possible that Ms. B’s couple bound Ms. A and then assaulted her. The exact cause of death of Miss A is expected to be confirmed in about two weeks after the autopsy results are released. The police are also investigating when the abuse, such as the assault of Mrs. B against Miss A, began.
Ms. A has been living at the house of Mrs. B from the end of October to early November of last year. It was investigated that the birth mother of Mr. B’s younger brother, Mr. A, had difficulty taking care of Mr. A due to moving problems and working life, and left it to Mr. B’s couple. Before coming to Mr. B’s house, Ms. A lived with her biological parents in another area in Yongin, and it was found that she attended school normally. A police official said, “We cannot reveal specific details, including whether there is any trace of the bonds, because we are investigating. I will review it.”
