Stalking, current fine of 100,000 won… Initiation of an Enhancement Act
In the current law, stalking is classified as a misdemeanor, so the imprisonment regulations as well as the fine are treated very lightly, with a level of 100,000 won or less.
On this day, Justice Party lawmaker Hye-young Jang announced that it had proposed a representative proposal for the’Special Act on Punishment for Stalking Crimes’, which reinforces punishment for stalking crimes and details measures to protect victims.
The Special Law stipulated that stalking perpetrators were imprisoned for not more than 3 years or fined 30 million won.
The special case law also regulated the types of’stalking crimes’, including digital stalking.
Rep. Jang urged an immediate legislation, saying, “Sttalking is not just an individual problem, but a serious crime that can lead to assault, sexual violence, and even murder.”
