Deputy Director of the Institute of Democracy Kim Yong-yong, a close associate of Lee Jae-myung, president of the Democratic Party of Korea, arrested on charges of “illegal presidential campaign funds”, will be tried tomorrow (8th ).
Above all, I am interested in how the importance of CEO Lee will be described in the indictment of Vice President Yong Kim.
After the indictment of Vice President Yong Kim, the investigation of Jeong Jin-sang, another close associate of Lee, should speed up the investigation.

The charge the prosecution applied to secure new recruits for Vice President Yong Kim on the 19th of last month is an illegal transfer of political funds.
He is believed to have conspired with Yoo Dong-gyu, former head of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, since April last year, prior to the Democratic Party presidential primary, and received four times 847 million won from lawyer Nam-wook.
As at the time of the arrest, the prosecution, who respected the maximum detention period of up to 20 days, should first apply the allegation of violation of the Political Fund Act to Vice President Kim and hand her over to trial.
The indictment is inevitable for former CEO Yoo, who has been tied up as an accomplice, and for attorney Nam, who has been designated as a donor.
Now, attention is focused on what Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung looks like in Vice President Kim’s indictment.
Since the start of the investigation, the prosecution has designated the illegal political funds received by Vice President Yong Kim as “election funds” and actually investigated Lee.
However, while Deputy Director Kim denied receiving the money during the detention period, it is known that the investigation into the source of the funds has practically not been launched.
Of course, the prosecution is confident to prove the allegations through objective evidence and statements from officials.
Since Vice President Kim is a close associate who ran the organization at Lee’s camp during the presidential election, the prosecution is very likely to claim that it is Lee’s presidential campaign rather than illegal political funds.
However, it is expected that it will not be easy to mention that CEO Lee is in a collusive relationship or directly related to the situation where the investigation into the source of the funds is insufficient.
Furthermore, the prosecution is also fighting until the last minute to tie the accusation of receiving 100 million won from Yoo, a former general manager before the 2014 Seongnam mayor election, as a “global crime”.

After the indictment of Vice President Kim, the investigation into Jeong Jin-sang, head of the political affairs coordination office, representative of the Democratic Party, is expected to accelerate.
Director Jung is also on the line of investigation on suspicion of receiving tens of millions of won from Yoo, twice in 2014 and 2020.
Deputy Director Kim Yong-yong, as well as General Manager Jeong Jin-sang, are considered close associates of CEO Jae-myung Lee.
There is also the prospect that the prosecution’s investigation against Lee could be accelerated following the indictment of Deputy Director Kim.
