The semi-trailer will be the fifth vehicle after Tesla’s current range of mass-produced electric cars, following the Model 3, Model S, Model X and Model Y.
The Semi Truck is Tesla’s first new vehicle since the Model Y crossover launched in early 2020.
The launch of the semi-trailer came five years after Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the model of the truck.
Musk originally said it would produce semi-trailers starting in 2019, but kept putting the schedule off due to the technical limitations of large truck-mounted batteries.
The Wall Street Journal diagnosed that Tesla was able to deliver the Semi after US President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law in August.
After the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act, which grants subsidies only to American-made electric vehicles, commercial electric vehicles receive tax breaks of up to $40,000 and 52 million won in our money, allowing Tesla to enter the truck market Bloomberg reported. .
According to Roland Berger, a German consulting firm, a typical diesel trailer in the US market costs about $120,000, or about 150 million won in our money.
Existing truck markets have had issues with exhaust fumes and high fuel costs, but when the use of electric trucks becomes active, it is expected to bring about a big change in the trucking industry.
There are also observations that if large electric trucks are equipped with advanced driver assistance features, the labor cost burden on truck operators can also be reduced.
However, some experts predicted that it would be difficult for Tesla to compete in the commercial truck market.
