Yes, it is.

The AFP news agency reported that martial law was imposed in seven areas in downtown Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city, and one in the province of Eyawadi.

Additional martial law may be proclaimed in other regions, AFP said.

In areas where martial law was proclaimed, gatherings and assemblies of more than five people were completely banned.

Neither car marching nor public speaking is allowed.

The embassy also said, “In an official document, the Myanmar government has announced a curfew and banning assemblies of five or more people,” and called for the safety of Korean residents.

The martial law came a few hours after the military regime announced its position to punish protesters for illegal activities.

Earlier, the military government of Myanmar made a statement on state-run TV, saying that “the law will take action against illegal actions that harm the safety of the country or the public.”

Since last weekend, protests against the military coup have been intensifying throughout Myanmar.

Massive protests continued in Yangon, the largest city in Myanmar, as well as Naepido, the capital, and some wounded.

The declaration of martial law has completely banned street gatherings, but it is expected that a physical conflict between the two sides will be inevitable if the resistance of the citizens continues.
